Nomination Guidelines for Honorary Chief
In the Maxwell-Gunter Chiefs Group

Background:  To establish guidelines for the nomination process of an individual to be recognized as an Honorary Chief Master Sergeant, Maxwell-Gunter Chiefs Group.

Discussion:  Guidelines for the nomination process

a.  The Maxwell-Gunter chiefs Group is the sole body authorized to nominate and/or approve or disapprove nominations for Honorary Chief.

b.  Any active duty, reserve, guard or retired (member in good standing) chief (of the Maxwell-Gunter Chiefs' Group) may nominate an individual, military or civilian, to the Maxwell-Gunter Chiefs' Group to be recognized as an Honorary Chief Master Sergeant.

c.  The nomination brief should clearly articulate extraordinary achievements and/or contributions of the candidate and provide specific examples of how the nominee's actions have enhanced the quality of life, morale, and well being of the Maxwell-Gunter enlisted corps.  The nomination brief should be typed and forwarded to any executive board member.

d.  The nomination will not be notified of the pending nomination.

e.  The nomination will be presented initially at an "announced" membership meeting.  Our current Chiefs' Group constitution requires a minimum of 25 percent of the members in good standing to approve proposed initiatives.

f.  At the meeting, chiefs will be encouraged to discuss the merits of the nomination.

g.  At a subsequent meeting (to be announced), a vote will be taken on whether to approve or disapprove the nomination.  In advance of the meeting, a copy of the nomination brief will be provided to all members in good standing of the Maxwell-Gunter Chiefs Group.  To maintain discretion, such documents will not be distributed via e-mail.

h.  At a pre-announced membership meeting, a vote will be taken to determine approval/ disapproval of the nomination.  Proxy votes will be taken prior to the meeting from members (in good standing) unable to attend.

i.  If the nomination is approved, the most appropriate protocol will be selected to notify the nominee.  Approval of the nomination requires support from at least 95 percent of the voting members in good standing.  Should the nomination be disapproved, no further action is required.

j.  A committee will be established to plan an appropriate induction ceremony after the nominee has been established.  In those instances when the nomination is from the 908th Airlift Wing, the chiefs assigned to the unit will take the primary planning role due to the associated Unit Training Assemblies (UTA) held mainly on weekends.

k.  Attendees at the Honorary Chiefs' Group Induction ceremony will be restricted to family members or a significant other attending with the nominee, and active duty, guard, reserve, or retired chief of the Maxwell-Gunter chiefs' Group.  Note: Honorary chiefs will not be invited.

Action:  Recommend approval of the above nomination guidelines and inclusion in the Maxwell-Gunter Chiefs Group Bylaws.
